The Casa degli Artisti Giacomo Vittone celebrates an important anniversary in 2017: the cultural body of Canale, supported by the towns of Tenno, Riva del Garda, and Arco, boasts fifty years of activity.
Back in 1967, the awesome greystone building that today welcomes the hamlet’s visitors was first appointed as hospitable meeting point for the artists coming from all over the world. Today, the vision towards the role and the activities of the Casa have almost completely changed: Casartisti is now an extraordinary powerhouse of culture. While in 1960s and 1970s the building used to be mainly a point of reference for the local artistic associations and to lodge the foreign artists, from the second half of the 1980s the then union of the four town administrations (which included also Nago-Torbole) undertook a series of initiatives that turned the Casa into a promotion body at National level, and later also at European level, thanks to the contacts and the fruitful collaborations with academies, museums, National and foreign art and music schools (i.e. the Italian schools “Brera”, “Cignaroli”, “Depero”, and many others also in Canada, Austria, Belgium, Germany). The events that today belong to the Trentino and local cultural heritage originated in this period, as the “Rustico Medioevo” festival, that has been exciting the crowd in August with its shows set in the faithful historic set of the hamlet of Canale since 1987. The Casa also hosted many great exhibitions, e.g. those from the Graphics International Biennales, the shows dedicated to the famous Goya, Dalì, Mirò, Picasso, Vasarely, Durer, and to great Italian artists as Guttuso, de Chirico, Tamburi and Mastroianni. Among the themed exhibition, “40 Artists for Wolfgang Goethe”, “Whodunit”, “The Sings of Peace” worth a mention. Last but not least, many conventions, cultural meetings, and classes were also held at the Casa.
This exhibition in particular aims to go over the Casa’s history through many events, which recall how and why it was established along with its several cultural activities, and it will surely be an occasion to further foster the local cultural effort and participation of the last fifty years.
